Good Shepherd School

Opened in 2001 as part of the vision of the late Fr. Harry Tompson, S.J., The Good Shepherd school provides an excellent, tuition-free education in a safe and nurturing enviornement to at-risk children in New Orleans who are admitted from families living in poverty. The effect of this exceptional academic opportunity is to empower these children by providing them with the tools to break away from the cycle of poverty into which they are born.

Following the Nativity School Model, Good Shepherd School provides an intensive, year-round education attending to the specific needs of at-risk children in order to foster academic and personal growth. Integral parts of our K-7th grade program include an extended-day and year-round schooling, small student/teacher ratio, enrichment activities, parental/family involvement and development, and a faith-based, charater-oriented curriculum.

The accomplishments of this mission are currently seen in quality high schools, such as Jesuit High School, St. Mary's Dominican High School, and Mount Carmel Academy, where the twenty graduates of our 2008 and 2009 classes are working hard to continue to fulfill their potential and pursue their goals. The school continues to monitor their success and provide them with social and academic support through our Graduate Support Program. Visit the school's website for more information.
