More Ways to Help through the Arrupe Fund |
Many of our apostolates have borne the burden of hundreds of additional people coming to their doors for help. They accepted this challenge in the true spirit of Christian Hospitality. But that hospitality has placed a strain on the institutional well-being, and they could use your assistance today.
Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas took in almost 100 students, faculty and staff from the New Orleans area. They have managed to absorb them into their daily class schedule. But again the daily operating costs of the school have risen dramatically. The students, faculty, staff and families of Jesuit Dallas have opened their hearts, homes and school to the evacuees from New Orleans — and now they could use your help. You may give directly to Jesuit Dallas by going to their website www.jesuitcp.org, or you may give through the Province (please designate "Jesuit Dallas" when you make your gift).
The Jesuit Novitiate & Spirituality Center, Grand Coteau, LA housed the evacuated Jesuits from New Orleans directly after the storm. They have also become the new home for the Province Offices — renovating space to hold offices of the provincial and his staff. They were key in housing lay staff members and other evacuated families until they could get back on their feet. Truly, they have served as a refuge in the middle of the storm to over 100 men and women escaping the path of Katrina. Also, they were battered by the 100+ mph winds of Hurricane Rita losing many trees and having electricity and water knocked out for days. You may give to the Novitiate & Spirituality Center through the Province (please designate "Novitiate/Spirituality Center" when you make your gift).
Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat Center, Grand Coteau, LA was filled to capacity by the residents of our Ignatius Residence Retirement Community, the Dominican Sisters, and other lay evacuee families. Later during Hurricane Rita they were filled again! Their hospitality was above and beyond the call of duty. You may give to the Our Lady of the Oaks via the Province’s website (please designate "The Oaks" when you make your gift).
Spring Hill College, Mobile has taken in over 100 students from the New Orleans area. Roughly 100 of their own students' families lost homes or employment or both. The College is meeting students' needs so that they can continue their education. The College has offered counseling and other support services to students. The school has had extra expenses totaling over a million dollars. You may give directly to Spring Hill by going to their website www.shc.edu or you may give through the Province (please designate "Spring Hill" when you make your gift).
Strake Jesuit, Houston has taken in over 400 students from the hurricane area! They accepted so many that they have had to run two sessions per day by adding an evening class schedule. As you can imagine, doubling the usage of a facility has increased costs dramatically. Families have opened their homes to receive the young men from Jesuit New Orleans — in some cases families are taking four kids! You may give directly to Strake Jesuit by going to their website www.strakejesuit.org, or you may give through the Province (please designate "Strake" when you make your gift).
