Hurricane Relief Efforts

The Jesuit brothers and priests have a long history in the South — going back several centuries. Along with many families both rich and poor, our ministries and apostolates in New Orleans have suffered greatly from Hurricane Katrina and were challenged again by Hurricane Rita. Our ministries outside the New Orleans region have been called upon to receive and care for many evacuees. They too have shouldered the burden.

Reflections and video to aid your prayer: Contemplating Katrina

St. Ignatius told his Jesuit followers that they must be able to beg in order to ensure that the Gospel light is shown in even the darkest times. So we turn to you today and beg your assistance during these challenging times for the New Orleans Province. Two funds have been established to bring relief in the aftermath of these terrible storms.

The links above will list the affected institutions and provide direct links to contact them. You may donate online to the Fr. Pedro Arrupe Fund or the St. Peter Claver Fund, or you may choose to donate directly to these institutions. You may also send a check to the address listed below. Any cash contribution to the relief efforts is tax-deductible.

Thank you for taking the time to consider being a partner in the recovery of the Gulf Coast region and its hurting — but resilient — people. Please continue to remember the people of the Gulf Coast in your prayers. Let us pray that the Lord guide us and help us to help others. May St. Ignatius watch over us in the weeks and months ahead.
