As the last stage of their journey to the priesthood, Jesuit seminarians are ordained as transitional deacons early in their final year of theological studies. Upon completion of these studies and usually at the beginning of the summer, they are ordained to the full ministry of the priesthood.

Jeremy Zipple was ordained to the diaconate on Saturday, October 6, 2012, in Boston where he is presently finishing his studies at Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. He was among the nine men ordained this day by Cardinal Seán Patrick O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Boston.

Raul Navarro was ordained as deacon in San Francisco, California, on Saturday, October 20, 2012. He is currently a student at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley.

Both of these men will be ordained priests on June 8, 2013, in Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans.

Our congratulations and prayers go with these new deacons!

Highlights of Jeremy's and Raul's Diaconate Ordinations

The candidate must declare his intention to be ordained to the Order of Deacons, to discharge the office with humility and love, to hold and proclaim the apostolic faith in word and deed, to maintain a spirit of prayer, and to live according to the example of Christ.
